This year’s Privacy Awareness Week has come and gone, held annually to increase awareness about privacy and personal data protection concerns.
We at Privacy Ninja gladly support events such as this one, which aims to educate individuals and organisations regarding the critical nature of data privacy and protection. We take it as a must to minimise the growing cases of data breach in the future.

Data is fast becoming the most valuable asset for both organisations and malicious actors. While it is true that organisations are fortifying their cybersecurity measures each year, they need to understand that cyber actors are also improving their tactics just to penetrate their systems.
Organisations, therefore, must not be complacent with their safeguards and should always implement tighter regulation and increased consumer awareness. They should also rethink their approach to data security when it is not efficient in blocking breaches.

There are several implications when an organisation fails to secure its client’s personal data.
Aside from the hefty financial penalty imposed by the PDPC, the customer’s trust in the organisation is also at stake. This means that when the organisation suffers a breach, this could mean the end of its relationship.
This makes sense as who would entrust their personal data to an organisation that has the potential to undergo a data breach? This would then lead to a loss of revenue and a tarnished reputation affecting potential future clients.
